I’ve been watering Quyen’s garden while the roomies are gone for a trip to Hawaii (what a life!!).
It’s been a pathetic reminder of how unprepared I am to stop living my self-centered life, and how much selflessness — and groundedness — is required for the caring of a living thing.
Whether it’s a dog that needs walking, a garden that needs watering, a baby that needs…everything, being in charge of the livelihood and growth of a living creature is an activity that requires time, effort, and a regular stop at home after work.
Which is why — no matter how much we love them — Mark and I aren’t going to be getting a dog anytime soon.
